Grateful to be back to Wanderlusting - In Puerto Rico.

Nicole dancing in Puerto Rico

Exploring (and twirling) in Old San Juan.

The travel bans took their toll… but with proof of a negative covid tests, we were off to Puerto Rico for a much needed 4 days!

Wow! What a girls’ trip this was! Even though flying as a non-rev as an airline worker is always a little sketchy, this trip was tough, in both directions. The demand for travel is sky rocketing again as people celebrate the lifting of bans and seek to quench their desire for travel and adventure. What started out as a flight with 31 open seats quickly dwindled sown to 0 open seats, so I purchased a last minute ticket for my travel comrade, Jasmine and I myself took to the crew bunks for the flight. But in the end, the unexpected cost, and seating arrangements were worth it! We decided last minute to fly down and meet a couple friends and well, we weren’t going to let a few full flights stop us.

The island of Puerto Rico is only about the size of Rhode Island, but there is SO much to see there. From the only rainforest within the USA, El Yunque National Forest, to the colorful district of Old San Juan, there is so much diversity to see and experience… and delicious food to be devoured!

Arriving at our last minute AirBNB was not exactly the welcome we hoped for. Booking last minute when Puerto Rico is about to host a Gay Pride Parade is probably not the smartest move, all the good AirBNBs were booked, but we were desperate to getaway and Puerto Rico was calling. We weren’t going to be at the house that much anyway, right? Ha, lesson learned, always check for local events PRIOR to booking your trip. But once we got a rental car, got situated and dropped our bags, we were off.

Traveling with my cousin/more lie a sister was a breeze and she’s always been a great trip navigator/planner. .But once we got our toes in the sand and she turned down a rum punch I began to suspect something. Maybe she was just dehydrated…

The stop at El Yunque were amazing! We hiked to the top of a gorgeous mountain top through the rainforest. Dined on bistec adobo, took dozens of silly photos, then decided we just had to see a waterfall - so off to Gozalandoa we drove. Then on to MarChiquita Beach for some snorkeling. Day 3 we shot the old town in San Juan and danced and danced and danced. The music was delicious, the food was amazing and my travel companions were as wonderful as expected. The trip was made even sweeter by my suspicions being confirmed, I would be becoming an Aunt in roughy 6 more months. Hooray! I am so happy we got this last trip in now, because I have a feeling it may be a while before another girls trip with these lovely ladies will reveal itself agin.
